The Wikipedia says ‘The usage of flags spread from India and China, where they were almost certainly invented…’. Looking at the number of flags fluttering from the ICC world cup galleries, it looked for sure that the most number of flags would have been sold on the day India played the final than even on the Independence day. Call it by any name – nationalism or patriotism or whateverism. folks needed some strong icon to represent their support for the national team.
There is indeed a reverse brain-drain, almost approaching that of China. More Indians want to stay back in India, as living conditions look up and incomes shoot up. when one can have a ‘foreign’ standard of living right at home, minus the need for cultural adjustment, why not stay back?
